The search is over as Post University has found its new Director of Athletics. Ronnie Palmer will lead Post athletics into a new chapter when he takes the reins in June. Palmer spent the last eight years, including five as Athletic Director, at Davis and Elkins College, his alma mater.
“I want to thank Dr. Mroz, Vice President Don Kelly, and everyone else involved in the interview process on affording me this wonderful professional opportunity. I look forward to getting on campus and hit the ground running,” said Palmer.
Davis & Elkins is a small Division II institution in Elkins, West Virginia and a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. While in charge, Palmer spearheaded the addition of both men’s and women’s lacrosse teams to bring the department total to 16 programs. He also oversaw the construction of a brand new soccer facility and softball field, and the renovation of Memorial Gym/Martin Fieldhouse.
Prior to last year Palmer also spent seven seasons guiding the Davis & Elkins’ Senators baseball team. He finished his coaching career with 156 victories, the most in school history. Palmer also coached nine first team all-conference selections including a career-high three honorees in his final season in 2014.
Palmer excelled as a baseball student-athlete at Davis & Elkins. In 1998, he was named West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Player of the Year after setting school records with 16 home runs and 45 RBI. After college he spent one year as an assistant coach with the Senators. He also had coaching stints at Bowie State, West Hills Community College (Calif.), and Salem Community College (N.J.) before returning to his alma mater.
